Where to Explore?
There are over 20 institutions across Canada that offer Explore! Discover their particular histories and communities. Each location has a different set of activities and workshops, as well as a unique community to welcome you to town.
Please note that each institution may have different start/end dates and age restrictions, and some offer credits and Languages at Work. Some locations even offer home-stays with local families as a way of immersing program participants even more deeply in the language. Canada has an amazing history and heritage to be explored — which adventure will you choose?

Cégep de Rivière-du-Loup
Since 1974, the École de français du Cégep de Rivière-du-Loup has offered an FSL program with a long-standing history of excellence, helping students to learn all levels of French and get acquainted with the culture of Québec. Rivière-du-Loup is located in a beautiful resort area along the St. Lawrence River. Students stay with a host family or at the residence, and are given the opportunity to live a unique linguistic and cultural experience.

In this complete immersion environment you will not only learn French but you will live the language and the culture of Québec. La Pocatière (QC)
Immerse yourself in francophone culture in La Pocatière — a safe and beautiful French-speaking town on the banks of the Saint Lawrence River. In the morning, you will study French with dedicated and engaged teachers. In the afternoon, you will attend supervised workshops in dance, theatre, arts, sports, or journalism, or go on exciting outings to Quebec City, Grosse Île, or an Arbraska park. La Cité universitaire francophone, Université de Regina
Explore à Gaspé, été 2016! Focused on developing oral communication skills through authentic conversational situations, the La Cité universitaire francophone’s unique program makes full use of the magnificent natural surroundings of Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles in order to make learning French an active and stimulating experience. Université de la Saskatchewan
Since 1965, our FSL program is focused on spoken and comprehension mastery, with more than 200 hours of course work, workshops, sociocultural activities and excursions. Intensive daily instruction is delivered by highly experienced teachers using the communicative method. Optional excursions: weekend trip to Banff, day trip to Saskatoon Berry Barn, Shearwater River Cruise, Solar Gardens Cafe and greenhouses. Most students can receive credit if their home institution grants a letter of permission.
Université de Moncton
The Université de Moncton has been offering programs in French as a second language for over 35 years. Immerse yourself in the French language the Acadian culture in the vibrant city of Moncton. In addition to learning French in a dynamic and interactive classroom environment and through various workshops and activities, you will have opportunities to experience the hospitality of the Acadian people and the beauty of the Canadian east coast with trips to top attractions in New Brunswick.
Université de Montréal
The “École de langues” is located in the heart of the “Université de Montréal,” the largest French-speaking university in North America. It’s campus offers you a very safe place to study and beautiful view of the city below. The university's “École de langues” provides dynamic French credit courses adapted to students coming from all over the world. Université de Saint-Boniface
Our courses are taught using a communicative and experiential, theme-based approach. The emphasis is on oral conversation; but, there is also a handbook for each level. The course is broken down into sub-themes within a main theme. You will be able to complete two levels during the program. At the end of a level, with your class, you will make a final presentation using the vocabulary and concepts learned during the course. These presentations allow students to put their new skills on display.
Université de Sherbrooke
Nestled in the Eastern Townships, the Université de Sherbrooke offers a language immersion program to develop oral and written communication skills while discovering Quebec and francophone culture. Advanced students take part in volunteer activities.
Université du Québec à Chicoutimi
Our courses (7 credits) focus on conversation skills and highlight Quebec culture. Working in small groups of 18 students is conducive to applying new linguistic and cultural knowledge. Sports and cultural activities are also on offer to help maximize language acquisition. Every summer, 150 local families host our students. In our magnificent region, French is the language of daily life around the clock — the true meaning of immersion!
Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM)
The FSL immersion program at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) offers both the fun of learning the French language and the fun of experiencing Quebecers’ warmth and culture. Participants take part in various educational activities designed to boost and strengthen language skills, notably theatre and pronunciation workshops. The demands of homework, while part of the Explore adventure, feel a lot lighter when you get to go on field trips to discover the heart and soul of Quebec’s cities. Our downtown scavenger hunt on Mount Royal is worth the trip!
Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières
The École internationale de français has been offering outstanding language courses since 1974. In a totally francophone city, improve your written and oral skills to communicate efficiently in French. Participate in dynamic cultural activities, workshops and field trips, including visits to Quebec City and Montreal. Enjoy our modern facilities: Wi-Fi campus, cycling path, olympic pool, indoor and outdoor jogging tracks, modern gym, library, student café, etc. Bring your child along!
Quebec City (QC)
This summer, sign up for French as a foreign language credit courses at Université Laval’s École de langues. This unique program is delivered by a team of experienced instructors and motivated group leaders, and alternates between classroom and sociocultural activities to create lively interaction among participants. Our campus is located in beautiful Quebec City, a UNESCO World Heritage site and an inspiring and stimulating place to study.

University of Victoria
A French experience with a west-coast flavour. The summer 2015 course will mark the 50th anniversary of the French program at the University of Victoria, on beautiful Vancouver Island, where it was created in 1965 (even before Explore existed!) under the name "La Maison Française." We now have all the facilities and resources of a modern, vibrant university, but some things never change: sunshine, beaches, rain forests, and a lush, green campus in an incredibly charming city.
